TEMPLE FESTIVAL
The 8-day annual festival of the temple is held in the malayalam month of Kumbham. The first temple festival was started on 1098 Kumbham 15th. After this the festival is held without any break every year. The festival starts with "Kodiyettam" (flag hoisting) on Punartham Varam of Kumbham and concludes with "Aarattu" (holy bath) on the 8th day.
Porur temple festivals are famous and popular for Thaymapaka, Kathakali & other art forms which are offered during the festival. For the past few years, "Porur Shiva-Vishnu Kshetra Samithi" has been organizing the festival in its full glory with the whole-hearted support and contributions from the natives of Porur & neighbouring villages.
During the festival days devotees offer "Annadanam" to hundreds of visitors who visit the temple.
MANDALA KALAM:
The first 12 days of "Vrischika Masam" is important here when Navaka & Panchagavya Abhisheka is offered. "Niramala" is offered by devotees for Deeparadhana during this period.
On the 13th day, Navaka & Panchagavya Abhisheka is offered to Mahavishnu.
SHIVARATHRI:
Another important day is Shivarathri when the villagers assemble in the temple premises with prayers & offerings to seek the blessings of Porurappan.
PRATHISHTA DAYS:
Prathishta Day for Lord Sri Porurappan falls on "Revathi" day in malayalam month "Meenam" and that of Lord Mahavishnu is on "Makam" day in the month "Meenam". Special Pujas are done on these two days.
